Analytics moving from customer to operations for competitive advantage

The move to get one over on the competition means organisations are increasingly moving towards the back end instead of customer facing roles for their analytics, argues Capgemini – but there is still a long way to go before universal business benefits are realised.

The findings appear in a study from Capgemini’s Digital Transformation Institute, which focuses on a survey of 600 operations executives across three continents.

The study puts organisations into four categories...

The three key trends from MWC 16: IoT, NFV, and 5G

(c)iStock.com/rzoze19

There were three distinct yet interrelated themes at this year’s MWC in Barcelona that will likely have significant staying power in the years to come. These themes are the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearables, network function virtualisation (NFV), and 5G.

IoT and wearables were everywhere during the show.  Vertical markets like healthcare, transportation/logistics, and automotive seemed to be well represented in vendor and operator booths....

How IoT empowers dialogue on cybersecurity, privacy, and identity and access management

By Joni Brennan and Oleg Logvinov

It is a counterintuitive challenge to begin with. The whole point of the Internet is to make informationmore accessible, but the prevailing question in cybersecurity, privacy and identity and access management (IAM) is how to build an effective framework of complementary technologies and policies for restricting who can access what information when and in what ways.

In the digital transformation that is well underway with Internet of Things (IoT) and...

By Adam Spearing, VP Platform EMEA, Salesforce

The sheer amount of data being created is staggering. According to IBM, 2.5 exabytes of data was generated every day in 2012. The importance of data is becoming so big, even the US Government has launched an initiative to help access and analyse it.

It is no longer sufficient for organisations to have a strategy around legacy data. Instead, they need a plan that considers the evolving...

This blog aims to cut through the hype to help you understand what Big Data is and its relevance to your...

Why a successful CRM needs strategy

I have previously explained my view that the true value of any CRM implementation lies in its ability to provide data to processes across other systems, both internal and external, making it a solution rather than a tool.  As suppliers and customers communicate with your company across more services, it’s vital to be able to access this information, but integrating so many diverse touchpoints can be time-consuming and complex.

As a result, rather than the traditional feature-based approach to choosing a CRM vendor, you might have better...

Man vs machine: Always consider context when using big data

Technology is a marvelous thing. There is more computing power in your pocket right now than was used to land men on the moon. Advanced computer and software technologies can predict natural disasters, stop crime and even drive driverless cars. Artificial intelligence is a powerful reality, and not just a comic book plotline. With all of these wonderful technological advances, there is an inescapable conclusion: technology coupled with raw, unbiased data offers superior solutions to human judgement....

How data quality is key in any integration and mobile project

I just returned from a meeting with one of my clients, a major player in the automotive industry, who have an integration between SAP R/3 and Salesforce.  Every day they send flat file extracts from both systems to an external agency to perform data matching.  This got me thinking, why not add a small data quality, or customer data management, component into your integration workflow, to do this automatically rather than going to an external agency?

I’ve previously stressed the business value...
