iOS continues to dominate mobile in the enterprise – with IT and media biggest movers

iOS continues to dominate the enterprise mobile device landscape, according to the latest figures from cloud storage provider Egnyte.

The figures, which come from more than 16 petabytes of data analysed between 2017 and 2018, found that of the figures analysed, 79% of all mobile activity came from iOS, with three fifths (59%) of that total from iPhones and 41% from iPads.

Slack secures $427 million in series H round – taking company valuation to $7.1 billion

Slack has announced it has raised an additional $427 million (£332m) of investment in a series H equity round, taking the company’s post-money valuation to more than $7.1 billion.

The round was led by Dragoneer Investment Group and General Atlantic, joining T. Rowe Price Associates Inc, as well as Wellington Management, Baillie Gifford and Sands Capital.

Is two-factor security no longer enough for organisations?

The news that Reddit has become the latest high-profile company to suffer a data breach raises some important security questions, particularly in relation to employees.

In this incident Reddit used SMS-based authentication, which, while still two-factor, is less secure than other methods. The SMS codes were intercepted by hackers who were then able to access some data.

New collaboration aims to explore VR and AR for engineering and automotive design

StarVR and Autodesk are coming together for an initiative to provide virtual and augmented reality for automotive design and engineering.

The product, VRED Professional, is optimised for the StarVR One head mounted display, which is also being unveiled this week. The headset offers a professional-grade colour spectrum, custom full RGB AMOLED displays and integrated eye tracking, among other features.

Organisations jumping head first into digital transformation projects – with wasteful results

Organisations are set to waste millions as they try and force through digital transformation initiatives, according to a new report from Couchbase.

The study, titled ‘Are Organisations Realising Their Digital Revolutions?’, polled 450 heads of digital transformation in enterprises across the UK, US, France and Germany, and found 95% saw digital transformation as an ‘insurmountable’ task.
