Google Android has 190 million activated devices

Google Android has hit 190 million activated devices since release.

A new version of Android’s OS system may be out by the end of the year. Code-named Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s optimized to join smartphones and tablets together.

Larry Page, CEO of Google, said: “I’m super excited about the soon to be released new version of Android called Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s right, Ice Cream Sandwich. You don’t believe what we’ve managed to get done in this release.”

Google’s social network, Google+, also passed a milestone, reaching 40 million users, alongside web browser Chrome that now has 200 million users.

Google’s mobile business rate is currently running at around $2.5 billion. Page also revealed a big rise in Google’s profits during the third quarter of the year.

Revenues increased by a third to $9.7bn (£6.2bn) and the net income went up by 26% to $2.7bn (£1.7bn).

Page said: "We are still at the very early stages of what technology can deliver. These tools we use online will look very different in five years time and we are building these tools into Google-plus."
