announces AppExchange hits 2m installs announced late last night that its AppExchange marketplace has surpassed two million app installs.

The AppExchange, which delivers enterprise software across a wide range of verticals, took six years to hit its first million installs, with only two years elapsing for the second million.

The news highlights the significant growth in companies adopting enterprise apps, and in particular enterprise app stores.

Gartner, in what was seen as an admittedly conservative prediction, forecast back in February that one in four companies would have their own enterprise app stores by 2017.

And Salesforce VP AppExchange Leyla Seka was understandably pleased by the news, using a fast food metaphor to compare the Salesforce AppExchange and Platform to McDonald’s winning brand formula.

“It is truly another great day for the cloud, and we’re lovin’ it,” she noted. “When we first dreamt up this idea of a business app marketplace back in 2005, it was years before ‘there’s an app for that’ became part of the common vernacular.

“Now, getting value out of enterprise technology has become as easy as getting value out of a meal,” she added.

In May the cloud giant announced the €5 million Innovation Challenge, offering a chance for innovative start ups to build successful enterprise apps on the Salesforce platform, building and marketing their app on Salesforce AppExchange in what Salesforce EMEA ACVP platform Adam Spearing described as “like an X-Factor for developers”.
