Spend a lot of your working week airborne? This may be of interest

Here’s a potential bonus for those executives who spend a large amount of their working life in security checks and departure lounges; global connectivity provider iPass has announced deals with United Airlines and TAV Airports to provide free Wi-Fi to certain business passengers.

The deal with United, announced at the beginning of this month, enables iPass customers to access the airline’s Wi-Fi in-flight network, while members of the TAV Passport Loyalty annual subscription program – currently numbering around 20,000 – will be able to utilise free connectivity at their network of airports, including Istanbul Ataturk, Medinah, and Zagreb.

The United deal will roll out in the fourth quarter of this year, while it is this reporter’s understanding that the TAV service is available now.

Speaking after the TAV announcement, Mato Petrusic, iPass VP EMEA and APAC, said: “In today’s Wi-Fi first world, being able to offer free and secure Wi-Fi access is a great way to engender customer loyalty. We are delighted to be working with TAV to bring the power of the iPass network to thousands of frequent travellers.

“This is a great example of a business seeing the value of offering premium customers global Wi-Fi access,” Petrusic added. “Today, it is important to stay connected,” said Matthew Recruiter, TAV operation services general manager. “In co-operation with iPass, we are pleased to provide our members with unlimited and secure internet access.”

iPass has also been busy with regard to providing connectivity in other industries, with the company announcing an Olympics-only deal with Uber riders in Rio de Janeiro, providing access to more than 1160 iPass commercial hotspots. The company’s latest Mobile Security Report, issued earlier this year, found that two in three organisations ban their employees from using public Wi-Fi.
