Get your working processes up to scratch or employees will look elsewhere, firms warned

Are your working processes as good as they could be? Nintex, a workflow automation software provider, argues a third of employees at US companies are looking for new jobs because their company’s processes are broken beyond repair.

The company surveyed 1,000 full time employees at US organisations with more than 1,000 employees, and found that tech troubleshooting was the corporate process which caused the most frustration. Lacking access to certain tools and documents was also frequently cited as broken, alongside annual performance reviews and promotions – or lack of them as the case may be – and employee onboarding.

As a result, shadow IT becomes increasingly prevalent. Almost half (46%) of millennial respondents admit engaging in shadow IT as a direct response to delayed IT troubleshooting, while three in five IT professionals have used unsanctioned apps or devices. Only a quarter (24%) of those polled said they saw ‘very prompt’ service from in-house IT teams.

Making the issue more difficult for organisations is a lack of somebody to blame. A quarter of IT employees say it is the CEO’s responsibility for IT issues, compared with only 13% of total respondents. For onboarding, 20% say the CEO is at fault, although more than half (53%) blame HR.

“Broken processes within American enterprises, like trouble contacting IT and inconsistent performance reviews, are taking a serious toll on employee morale and increasingly becoming a top concern for C-suite leaders,” said John Burton, Nintex CEO. “Given the study findings, it’s clear that automating the long tail of business processes can no longer be postponed.

“By automating processes, business leaders can ensure a strong foundation for positively improving employee retention and productivity.”
